Abstract:
The problem of the high prevalence of inflammatory and dystrophic periodontal diseases
is very urgent, despite the high level of diagnostic and treatment technologies in the arsenal of dentists and
the availability of information for patients [1]. According to professional literature, the prevalence of perio-
dontal tissue pathology is 85-100%, and their presence causes a number of biochemical, immunological
and functional disorders, microcirculatory and metabolic disorders, disorders of almost all types of
metabolism develop: protein, lipid, mineral, carbohydrate, which leads to to the progressive destruction of
tissues of the oral cavity [2]. Such a high prevalence of periodontal diseases, as well as their close relation-
ship with somatic pathology, determine the importance of this problem. The presence of concomitant pat-
hology, in particular, cardiovascular, endocrinological, autoimmune and viral diseases is a significant factor
that determines the course and prognosis of periodontal tissue diseases [3].
At the end of 2019, the world faced a terrible epidemic - COVID-19, which is still an acute scientific,
medical and social problem. The complexity of the coronavirus disease caused by SARSCoV-2 lies in the
unpredictable clinical course of the disease, which can progress rapidly, causing severe and fatal compli-
cations . The high prevalence of this infection makes it necessary to study its pathogenetic mechanisms[4]
in order to prescribe timely therapy. The relationship between underlying comorbidities and periodontal
pathology is reasonably well understood, and the relationship between COVID-19 and periodontitis is in
critical need of additional research.
