The paper describes independence as a property of personality and characteristics of the student; identified types of skills of independent learning activities of primary school students; the content and forms of work of the primary school teacher on formation of skills of independent work of pupils are investigated; the organizational and pedagogical conditions for the formation of skills of independent work in the educational process of primary school are substantiated.
