ENGAGING FUTURE SHIP ENGINEERS IN DISTANCE STEM EDUCATION

The research summarizes the modern approaches to STEM education for future ship engineers: the problem-based learning activities, not standard or typical designs and problems, the integration of STEM subjects, the introduction of innovation to teaching methods in relation to each subject, the multidisciplinary approach to STEM education that implies the integrative environment for teaching STEM subjects. It is highlighted that in the era of industrialization, literacy and work skills were important, but in the post-industrial era, the technological aspects of youth development have come to the fore. It has been also determined that awakening a creative approach, interest in a comprehensive perception of the subject of study, critical thinking, STEAM teachers give students more than just knowledge – they also give them skills, a taste for knowledge and work, a desire to immerse themselves in self-development, to love the learning process itself. The study presents the content-related and structural characteristics of STEM targets, approximate educational outcomes, content, final assessment, focus areas (problem solving situation), technological curriculum design methods provided by STEM techniques. The research describes the hands-on experience of involving teachers in creating STEM projects for ship engineers in distance STEM education. It is concluded that it is impossible to overestimate the prospect of using information technology in the implementation of STEM programs. Another conclusion is that graduates of educational institutions that actively use information technology in medicine, construction, chemistry, physics, biotechnology and other fields of science are becoming more and more in demand. Дослідження узагальнює сучасні підходи до STEM-навчання для майбутніх суднових механіків: проблемно-орієнтоване навчання, нестандартні або типові конструкції та проблеми, інтеграція предметів STEM, упровадження інновацій у методи навчання стосовно кожного предмета, багатопрофільний підхід до STEM-освіти, що передбачає інтегративне середовище для викладання предметів STEM. Підкреслюється, що в епоху індустріалізації грамотність та трудові навички були важливими, але в постіндустріальну епоху на перший план вийшли технологічні аспекти розвитку молоді. Також було визначено, що, пробуджуючи творчий підхід, інтерес до всебічного сприйняття предмета дослідження, критичного мислення, учителі STEM дають студентам не просто знання – вони також дають їм навички, зацікавленість до знань і роботи, бажання занурюватися в саморозвиток, любити сам процес навчання. У дослідженні представлено змістовні та структурні характеристики цілей STEM, приблизні результати навчання, зміст, підсумкове оцінювання, зони фокусування (вирішення проблемних ситуацій), методи проєктування технологічної навчальної програми, передбачені методами STEM. У дослідженні описано практичний досвід залучення вчителів до створення STEM-проєктів для суднових інженерів у дистанційній STEM-освіті. Зроблено висновок, що неможливо переоцінити перспективу використання інформаційних технологій у процесі реалізації програм STEM. Також наголошено, що випускники закладів освіти, які активно використовують інформаційні технології в медицині, будівництві, хімії, фізиці, біотехнологіях та інших галузях науки, стають усе більш затребуваними.
FORMATION OF DIGITAL AND RESEARCH COMPETENCES IN THE TRAINING OF IT PROFESSIONALS IN A MODERN UNIVERSITY

The article is devoted to the formation of digital and research competences of future IT professionals by applying complex practice-oriented tasks on the example of the educational topic "Development of chatbots using free online designers". The study of this topic is recommended within such disciplines as "Office Computer Technologies", "Information Systems in the Social and Legal Sphere", "Computer Information Technologies" and corresponds to the educational programs of the first (bachelor's) educational level in "Software Engineering", "Computer Science" and "Information Systems and Technologies". The purpose of studying the chatbot development technologies is learning of modern information and communication technologies by students for their practical implementation in the development and maintenance of software, as well as ensuring the occupational activity of employees of different categories. The educational topic "Development of chatbots using free online designers", which is offered for teaching in a modern university, is aimed at generalizing theoretical knowledge and developing practical skills of students of Bachelor level majoring in design in free software environments. The use of chatbots is one of the effective modern ways of communicating with users on mobile devices, which allows companies to reduce costs and attract new customers as well as timely meet the needs of existing customers. The study of this topic by students resulted in development of a chatbot working in the Telegram platform, which consults and provides answers related to the company's activities. To create the bot the free BorisBot service was used. The experience of teaching the topic of chatbot development at Kherson State University showed that its application in the preparation of bachelors majoring in 121 "Software Engineering", 122 "Computer Science", 126 "Information Systems and Technologies" motivates students to solve profession-oriented tasks. Стаття присвячена формуванню цифрової та дослідницької компетентностей майбутніх ІТ-фахівців шляхом застосування комплексних практико-орієнтованих завдань на прикладі освітньої теми «Розробка чат-ботів з допомогою безкоштовних онлайн-конструкторів». Вивчення цієї теми рекомендується в межах таких дисциплін, як «Офісні комп’ютерні технології», «Інформаційні системи в соціально-правовій сфері», «Комп’ютерні інформаційні технології» та відповідає освітнім програмам першого (бакалаврського) рівня освіти «Інженерія програмного забезпечення», «Комп’ютерні науки» та «Інформаційні системи та технології». Метою вивчення технології розробки чат-ботів є вивчення студентами сучасних інформаційно-комунікаційних технологій для практичної реалізації їх у процесах розробки та супроводу програмного забезпечення, а також забезпечення професійної діяльності працівників різних категорій. Освітня тема «Розробка чат-ботів з допомогою безкоштовних онлайн-конструкторів», що пропонується до викладання в умовах сучасного університету, спрямована на узагальнення теоретичних знань та розвиток практичних навичок студентів рівня підготовки «бакалавр» з конструювання в безкоштовних програмних середовищах. Використання чат-ботів є одним з ефективних сучасних способів комунікацій з користувачами на мобільних пристроях, що дає можливість компаніям знизити витрати та залучити нових клієнтів, своєчасно задовольняти потреби своїх споживачів. Результатом вивчення цієї теми студентами є розробка чат-бота для роботи в платформі Telegram, який консультує та надає відповіді з питань діяльності компанії. Для створення бота було використано безкоштовний сервіс BorisBot. Досвід викладання теми з розробки чат-ботів у Херсонському державному університеті засвідчив, що її застосовування в процесі підготовки бакалаврів спеціальностей 121 «Інженерія програмного забезпечення», 122 «Комп’ютерні науки», 126 «Інформаційні системи та технології» мотивує студентів до розв'язання завдань професійної спрямованості.
INTERACTIVE COURSE “MARITIME ENGLISH” IN THE PROFESSIONAL TRAINING OF FUTURE MARINERS

The article discusses the experience of usage of the virtual learning environment MOODLE in Maritime English studying while the training of students of marine specialties. The subject of the supplement is the formulary of the in-service compulsory competence of future mariners. Disclosing the possibilities of a foreign language interactive learning, researchers emphasize the increased need for the application of a variety of types and forms of e-education. The process of creating an electronic training course using the capabilities of the Learning Platform management system MOODLE (Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment) is described. LMS (Learning Management System) MOODLE is popular among teachers around the world as a means of creating dynamic websites for students enrolled in a variety of programs. Nowadays LMS MOODLE can be regarded as an effective way of teaching in higher educational institutions, that’s why the authors describe the key advantages of introducing the electronic courses created in this LMS in the academic process of the high educational establishment (Kherson State Maritime Academy in Ukraine). New innovative e-learning capabilities in a specialized virtual environment in the future can significantly improve the efficiency and quality of Ukrainian maritime education. In the context of increasing the requirements of the modern labor market to the professional training of graduates of higher educational institutions on the possession of English and the inadequate usage of the possibility of distance learning systems and mobile devices, there is a need to improve the quality of professional training of marine specialists by updating the technology of professional education and the transition from outdated forms of training to progressive technologies and models. Usage of LMS MOODLE enables you to increase the efficiency of the learning process of a foreign language in the high educational establishment in a limited number of auditorium hours. This system provides wide opportunities for communication and interaction between the teacher and students for jointly solving educational tasks, allows creating conditions for the organization of active learning taking into account the personal characteristics of each participant of e-course, as well as provides an opportunity to implement the content of the training by providing students with an extensive interactive educational and methodological resource base. The article presents the results of the practical usage of MOODLE system in the process of teaching English language for students of marine specialties in KSMA. Electronic educational and methodical complexes are being developed in accordance with the requirements of the 78/105 Model Course and IMO (International Maritime Organization) Model Course 3.17 Maritime English for the implementation of Competency and Communicative Approaches. The advantages of distance education with usage of computer technologies are noted. Usage of proposed forms and methods of studying English contributes to the qualitative and effective preparation of future mariners for professional-oriented communication, to overcome interpersonal barriers of communication and to create a harmonious environment during long voyages. The authors make the conclusions that in the conditions of development of the newest technologies the most suitable environment for the formation of professional foreign language competency is the system of distance learning, integrated into the traditional system of professional training of maritime higher educational institutions. The electronic course in LMS MOODLE has an educational potential as an effective means for forming the foreign language competency of specialists in the maritime industry. Interactive exercises of the course can be used as part of the system of formation of foreign professional competence of future marine specialists. The perspective direction of development determines the search and development of foreign language teaching methods, which will allow to combine a real educational environment with a virtual educational space based on electronic educational courses.
ОБ’ЄДНАННЯ МУЛЬТИМЕДІЙНИХ ЗАСТОСУНКІВ ЯК ІННОВАЦІЙНИЙ ПЕДАГОГІЧНИЙ ІНСТРУМЕНТ ВИКЛАДАЧА МОРСЬКОГО ЗАКЛАДУ ВИЩОЇ ОСВІТИ

У статті описується розробка та активне використання використання об’єднань мультимедійних застосунків на прикладі Херсонської державної морської академії. У рамках цього дослідження наведено розуміння сутності поняття «об’єднання мультимедійних застосунків» як інтегрування, обробку і разом з тим відтворення різних засобів і способів обміну даними, відомостями та інформацією; відтворення різних типів електронних середовищ, сигналів. Проаналізовано останні дослідження з використання новітніх технологій в освіті: інформаційно-комунікативного педагогічного середовища, системи змішаного навчання, технологій віртуальної/доповненої/змішаної реальності, гейміфікації. Описано ефективні методи та сучасні мультимедійні засоби дистанційного навчання з метою формування загальних та професійних компетентностей викладачів, майбутніх працівників морського та річкового транспорту в умовах пандемії COVID-19. Наголошено, що основними перевагами використання об’єднання мультимедійних застосунків у системі вищої морської освіти є розширення освітніх можливостей, удосконалення методів доступу до нового матеріалу та актуальної інформації. Описані переваги використання LMS Moodle у підготовці морських фахівців. Зауважено, що саме LMS Moodle дає можливість поєднувати мультимедійні технології як на основі взаємодії, так і на основі використання. Указано важливість використання гейміфікованих елементів для створення освітнього контенту з метою підвищення рівня мотивації здобувачів освіти. Акцентовано увагу на використанні учасниками освітнього процесу онлайн-сервісу BigBlueButton в умовах дистанційного навчання. Описано приклади використання відеоконференцій BigBlueButton. Як висновок автори наголошують, що поєднання різних типів та форм діяльності робить освітній процес більш ефективним, оскільки для студента з «кліповим» мисленням постійна зміна видів діяльності дає високий якісний результат щодо засвоєння навчального матеріалу. The article describes the development and active use of a combination of multimedia applications on the example of the Kherson State Maritime Academy. This study actually provides an understanding of the essence of the concept "combination of multimedia applications" as the integration, processing and at the same time reproduction of various means and methods of exchanging data, facts and information; reproduction of different types of electronic environments and signals. The latest research on the use of new technologies in education is analyzed: information and communication pedagogical environment, blended learning system, virtual / augmented / mixed reality technologies, gamification. Effective methods and modern multimedia distance learning tools are described in order to form general and professional competencies of teachers, future workers of sea and river transport in the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is emphasized that the main advantages of using the combination of multimedia applications in the system of higher maritime education are the expansion of educational opportunities, improvement of methods of access to new material and relevant information. The advantages of using LMS Moodle in the training of maritime specialists are described. It is emphasized LMS Moodle makes it possible to combine multimedia applications both on the basis of interaction and on the basis of use. The importance of using gamified elements to create educational content aimed at increasing the level of students’ motivation is indicated. The emphasis is placed on the use of the BigBlueButton online service by participants in the educational process in terms of distance learning. Examples of using BigBlueButton video conferencing platform are described. In conclusion, the authors emphasize the combination of different types and forms of activity makes the learning process more effective, as for a student with "clip" thinking constant change of activities gives a high quality result in terms of the learning material.
РОЗРОБКА ІНТЕЛЕКТУАЛЬНОГО ЧАТ-БОТА ВІДДІЛУ МІЖНАРОДНОГО СПІВРОБІТНИЦТВА

Стаття описує розробку та використання інтелектуального чат-бота як засобу візуалізації контенту й задля отримання доступу до інформаційних систем відділу міжнародного співробітництва. Наголошується, що характерною ознакою сучасності є формування та стрімкий розвиток інформаційного суспільства з чітким переходом до інноваційних моделей розвитку в усіх сферах суспільства. Чат-бот описано як дуже популярний і універсальний інструмент для комунікації та підвищення цифрової компетентності, вказано на його переваги. Проаналізовано наукові праці зарубіжних і вітчизняних дослідників з означеної проблематики, у яких висвітлено підходи до створення чат-ботів, особливості структури та дизайну, схарактеризовано стан та причини затребуваності цього засобу комунікації. Описано процедуру створення інтелектуального чат-бота відділу міжнародного співробітництва Херсонської державної морської академії для спрощення системи зв’язку між відділом і здобувачами вищої освіти, співробітниками в умовах інформаційно-технологічного середовища. Надана кваліфікація чат-ботів. Наведено класифікацію за такими параметрами, як користувач, платформа, призначення, принцип роботи та інтерфейс. Зауважено, що Telegram, на відміну від інших месенджерів, як платформа дозволяє чат-боту проводити різноманітні операції як із повідомленнями, так і з чатами. Bot Father було використано для розробки бота. Описано команди для редагування бота, що дозволяють змінювати його ім'я, опис, загальнодоступну інформацію про бота, зображення профілю, список команд, які бот підтримує, або налаштовувати та видаляти бот. Було створено різні команди бота, робота над якими покроково та детально пояснена й проілюстрована. У бот додано посилання на соціальні мережі відділу міжнародного співробітництва Херсонської державної морської академії. Наголошується, що використання інтелектуальних чат-ботів має потенційну освітню, інформаційну можливість як альтернативний засіб для формування педагогічної компетентності співробітників і здобувачів вищої освіти в умовах навчально-методичної роботи відділу. Перспективи подальших досліджень ми вбачаємо у вивченні використання інших можливостей для розширення функціоналу інтелектуального чат-бота відділу міжнародного співробітництва Херсонської державної морської академії. The article describes the development and use of an intelligent chat bot as a means of visualizing content and to gain access to information systems of the Office of International Cooperation. It is emphasized that a characteristic feature of modernity is the formation and rapid development of the information society with a clear transition to innovative models of development in all spheres of society. Chat bot is described as popular and universal tool for communication and digital competence formation, its advantages are pointed out. Scientific works of foreign and domestic researchers on this issue are analyzed, in which the approaches to the creation of chatbots, features of structure and design are highlighted, the state and reasons for the demand for this means of communication are characterized. The procedure of creating the intelligent chat bot of the Office of International Cooperation to simplify the communication system between the department and students, employees in the information technology environment is described. Qualification of chatbots is provided. It is noted that Telegram, unlike other messengers, as a platform, allows the chat bot to perform various operations with both messages and chats. BotFather was used to develop the bot. The article describes commands for editing the bot, which allow you to change its name, description, public information about the bot, profile image, list of commands that the bot supports, or configure and delete the bot. Various bot commands have been created, the work on which is explained step by step and in detail and illustrated. The bot added links to social networks of the Office of International Cooperation of the Kherson State Maritime Academy. It is emphasized that the use of intelligent chat bots has a potential educational, informational opportunity as an alternative tool for the formation of pedagogical competence of employees of academy and applicants for higher education in the educational and methodological work of department. We see prospects for further research in studying the use of other opportunities to expand the functionality of the intelligent chat bot of the Office of International Cooperation of the Kherson State Maritime Academy.
СТРУКТУРА ПРОФЕСІЙНОЇ АНГЛОМОВНОЇ ПІДГОТОВКИ МАЙБУТНІХ СУДНОВИХ МЕХАНІКІВ

Роль морського ЗВО (закладу вищої освіти) полягає у підготовці майбутнього компетентного працівника морського фаху таким чином, щоб він відповідав вимогам роботодавця і був здатний забезпечити, за умов перебування на судні, якісну професійну діяльність. Відтак, одним із ключових завдань підготовки суднового механіка є формування у нього комунікативної компетентності. Наше дослідження було направлено на опис професійного призначення майбутнього суднового механіка; перелік засобів навчання; формування предмета професійної діяльності; опис виробничих функцій; окреслення його навчального середовища та перелік умов успішного професійного навчання.В результаті нашого дослідження було доведено, що майбутні фахівці з експлуатації суднових енергетичних установок використовують новітні засоби навчання або навчально-методичні онлайн матеріали для вивчення суднових машин, механізмів та устаткувань у морському ЗВО й інформаційно-комунікативному педагогічному середовищі. Виробничі функції визначає Кодекс ПДНВ (Кодекс з підготовки і дипломування моряків та несення вахти). Використання комунікативно-компетентнісного підходу та електронних курсів на платформі MOODLE має потенційну освітню можливість як ефективний засіб для формування іноземної професійної компетентності майбутніх фахівців морської галузі. Змішане навчання, поєднання очного з електронними курсами на платформі MOODLE має потенційну освітню можливість як ефективний засіб для формування іноземної професійної компетентності майбутніх суднових механіків. Перспективи подальшого дослідження LMS MOODLE ми вбачаємо у вивченні зарубіжного досвіду використання змішаного навчання з метою поширення та удосконалення сучасних технологій навчання англійської мови у морських ЗВО. The role of the maritime higher educational establishments is to prepare a future competent marine specialist employee in such a way that he meets the requirements of the employer and is able to provide a qualitative professional activity on board. Therefore, one of the key tasks of the training of the ship's engineers is the formation of his communicative competence. Our research was aimed at describing the professional appointment of the future ship engineer; list of means of training; formation of a subject of professional activity; description of production functions; outline of his learning environment, and a list of conditions for successful professional training. As a result of our study, it has been proved that future ship engineers use modern training tools or online teaching materials for the study of marine machinery, mechanisms and equipment in the marine maritime higher educational establishment and informational and communicative pedagogical environment. The production functions are defined by the Code of the STCW (Code for the Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers). The use of the communicative competence approach and the e-courses in LMS MOODLE has a potential educational opportunity as an effective means for forming the foreign professional competence of future seafarers. Combined study, the combination of the EOOD with the MOODLE platform has a potential educational opportunity as an effective means for shaping the foreign professional competence of future ship engineers. Prospects for the further study of LMS MOODLE, we wish to further study the foreign experience of using mixed learning in order to disseminate and improve modern English language teaching technologies in marine higher education institutions.
