О.; Zabolotska O. О.
The famous phrase of W. Shakespeare: “Life is a game, and we are all actors in it” has been confirmed for many centuries. The status of metaphor as a stylistic device was changed by the book “Metaphors We Live With” by J. Lakoff and M.Johnson. Cognitive metaphorical rethinking of reality has expanded the boundaries of the use of this formation not only in philology, but also in other fields of knowledge in the philosophical, psychological, and literary dimensions. Analysis of the theoretical corpus of research has proved the high frequency of use of conceptual metaphors in political, media, military, and film discourses. However, the metaphorical model LIFE IS A GAME in English-language film texts has not been the subject of research by scholars in sphere of multimodality. A review of scientific works on this problem outlined the role and functions of conceptual metaphor in various types of discourse, including film discourse. The material for the analysis was English-language modern film texts, the content of which made it possible to research the metaphorical model LIFE IS A GAME in the following aspects: life as a plot game, as a computer game, as a game of chess. Extrapolating A. Bern’s views on contributory modes to the plane of film text content, the role of visual, realized and sound modes in the objectification of the metaphorical model LIFE IS A GAME was revealed. It has been proved that all types of contributing modes: sound, visual and implemented play a certain role in the created atmosphere of the film texts, visualize the mental and emotional state of the characters, their apparition; lighting, special effects, design of the city in bright colors and decorations enhance the creation of an imaginary world; the noise from fighting, demolitions, shooting, explosions shows a computer game; the action of the characters is conveyed by facial expressions, gestures, the use of specific words, nuances of intonation, produced by actors and characters in the corresponding situations
