Item CORRELATION BETWEEN JUNIORS’ MENTAL HEALTH PARAMETERS AND SPORTS MOTIVATION(2024) Kurova, A.; Popovych, I. S.; Zablotskyi, A.; Bazyka, Y.; Poleshchuk, L.; Hoi, N.; Los, O.; Попович, І. С.o explore the relationship between mental health parameters and sports motivation among junior athletes. Methods: The research sample included junior athletes aged 15–19 who trained regularly and pursued sports as a means of professional self-realization. An equal number of male (n = 32; 50.00%) and female athletes (n = 32; 50.00%) were selected. The sample maintained a balance between individual and team sports, with n = 32 (50.00%) participants from individual sports and n = 32 (50.00%) from team sports. Descriptive statistics for the sample were as follows: M = 18.12; SD = ±2.97; Me = 18.00. The parameters of mental health, the level of juniors’ positive mental health and health status, and groups of intrinsic and extrinsic motives were measured with valid and reliable psycho-diagnostic tools. Standard coefficients were used to establish statistical significance. Results. Two athletes’ profiles were created: a three-dimensional profile of mental health and a profile of sports motivation. Eighteen significant correlations between the parameters of groups of intrinsic and extrinsic motives and the mental health of athletes were established (p ≤ .050; p ≤ .010; p ≤ .001), three of them being inverse. The motive of skill development has the strongest correlations with an internal locus of control over health, positive mental health, and health status. The comparative matrix allowed for identifying the superiority of Group 1 (a high level of the parameters of mental health) in four pairs of dimensions: positive mental health and positive emotions; an internal locus of control and skill development; positive mental health and skill development; health status and skill development. No significant difference was found in the level of health status (Group 1 > 38.00 ≤ 1 Group 2) in the parameter “demotivation”. Discussion and conclusions. It was substantiated that systematic work on oneself, which manifests in self-improvement of technical and practical skills, allows purposeful and hard-working junior athletes to achieve remarkable sports results. The motives of learning new things and positive emotions with four direct correlations each are the most dependent ones. There is a caveat that junior athletes’ health status as a complex state of physical, emotional, and mental well-being may weaken sports motivation. It was recommended that the results obtained should be considered by administrators, coaches, psychologists, and managers of sports institutions who work with junior athletesItem STRATEGIES FOR EXTREME SELF-ORGANIZATION AMONG HANDBALL PLAYERS(2024) Plokhikh, V.; Popovych, I. S.; Kruglov, K.; Sabadukha, O.; Melnyk, N.; Omelianiuk, S.; Hoian, I.; Попович, І. С.This study aims to conduct theoretical and empirical research into the strategies of extreme self- organization among handball players in competitive context. Methods: The research sample consisted of 34 athletes, aged 20–28 years (Мe = 22.00; М = 21.87; SD = ± 3.64), who had been actively involved in handball for 4–12 years and represented both women’s and men’s teams. Validated psycho-diagnostic tools, extensively tested in team sports research, were used. Additionally, purposeful non-participant observation was performed using standard protocols. Theoretical methods were employed to analyze, generalize, and explain the empirical results. Results: The research strategy included comparing the parameters of two attack lines, the first line (Group 1) and the second line (Group 2), to assess their extreme self-organization strategies. It was found that experienced handball players rely on perfectly practiced functional models of organization, focusing on permanent significant changes in spatio-temporal relations of a competitive situation. It was established that the dominant strategies are as follows: taking responsibility; self-control; problem-solving planning. It was found that the competitive strategy orientated towards social support is manifested moderately. The moderation is explained by the connection of the players’ game expectations with successful functional self-realization of teammates, rather than with the emotionally colored personal self-realization. It was established that the strategy of confrontation is statistically pronounced in the experienced handball players of the first line of attack. This preference was regarded as a consequence of the functionally determined and normatively provided close physical contact with the players of the team-competitor. It was highlighted that the excessive confrontational attitude of experienced players is compensated by distancing oneself from provoking circumstances. Discussion and conclusions. It was established that the strategies of handball players’ extreme self-organization are motivational-behavioral patterns, caused by stressogenic situations of a contest, the players’ role positions on the sports ground, external and internal factors of sporting activities and organizational-content features of handball competitions. It was substantiated that the strategies of extreme self-organization of the first and second lines of attack have regular different functional-content parameters. It was proved that the obtained results of the research into the strategies of extreme self-organization possess scientific novelty and are valuable for representatives of team sports.Item PSYCHOLOGICAL CAUSES OF FATIGUE OF FOOTBALL PLAYERS(2023) Shcherbak, T.; Popovych, I. S.; Kariyev, A.; Duisenbayeva, A.; Huzar, V.; Hoian, I.; Kyrychenko, K.; Попович, І. С.The purpose of the research is to find out empirically and theoretically substantiate the psychological causes of football players’ fatigue. Methods. The ascertaining strategy of research and ranking of parameters has been applied. Valid and reliable psychodiagnostic methods have been used to measure parameters of professional maladjustment, self-assessment of psychophysiological state, differentiated assessment of performance, and the level of football players’ emotional burnout. Results. It was found that the high level of football player’s fatigue from the training-competitive cycle has been caused by a decrease in the efficiency of their psycho-functional systems: emotional changes (R=.920); a decrease in general activity (R=.810); a decrease in motivation to activity (R=.824); features of certain mental processes (R=.549); features of social interaction (R=.891). It has been shown that with a decrease in the indicators of the psychophysiological state, the feeling of fatigue increases: well-being (R=-.812); activity (R=-.840). As well as in relation to motivational factors of the appearance of fatigue: interest in sports (R=-.869); willingness to perform tasks (R=-.816). A statistically reliable inverse relationship has been established between all indicators of the psychophysiological state and predictors of fatigue: monotony, oversaturation, stress. It has been empirically established and explained that the drop in the level of football players’ performance, as a result of fatigue, can be caused by external negative influences: experiencing psycho-traumatic circumstances (R=.924); “being cornered” (R=.896); a desire to curtail professional activity: reduction of professional duties (R=.936); changes in team’s psychological climate: personal alienation (R=.924); changes in the emotional sphere: anxiety and depression (R=.882); inadequate selective emotional response (R=.867); emotional moral disorientation (R=.904); expansion of the sphere of emotional economy (R=.918); emotional deficit (R=.870); emotional alienation (R=.896). Discussion and conclusions. It has been summarized that football players with pronounced parameters of fatigue are much more often characterized by a deterioration in well-being, namely changes in the emotional sphere, a decrease in general activity and course of mental processes. At the same time, they are characterized by separate somatic vegetative disorders in sleep, peculiarities in social relations. In sports activities, they demonstrate reduced motivation and, accordingly, the lack of interest and motivation provokes a feeling of fatigue. It has been empirically found that the respondent football players with a pronounced feeling of fatigue demonstrate a high level of desire to stop their training and competition activities. These football players feel bored with monotonous, same-type activities and seek to change activity or diversify it.Item PSYCHO-EMOTIONAL STATES OF FUTURE SPECIALISTS IN A SOCIONOMIC AREA UNDER LOCKDOWN AND MARTIAL LAW: COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS(2022) Popovych, I. S.; Machynska, N.; Yaremchuk, N.; Korniat, V.; Kurinna, V.; Попович, І. С.The aim of the study is to perform comparative analysis of dominating psycho-emotional states of future specialists in a socionomic area under lockdown and martial law. A verification strategy is suggested for examining psycho-emotional states. The research used participant observation, valid and reliable psycho-diagnostic instruments, factor analysis, coefficients of empirical data reliability. It was established that in the comparison of the selected complex of psychological content parameters Group 1 (under lockdown) and Group 2 (under martial law) there are no significant differences. Two factor structures of the respondents’ psycho-emotional states were created: one of them – during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic (59.91%) and the other – during the martial law (69.89%). It was found out that the obtained data on psycho-emotional states during the lockdown and the martial law are essentially different that did not allow determining or disproving significant differences by means of statistical coefficients. The study substantiated that the established empirical facts are characterized by scientific novelty which should be taken into consideration by organizers of educational and professional training for specialists in a socionomic area. S.; Radul, I.; Radul, V.; Geiko, Ie.; Hoi, N.; Sribna, O.; Tymosh, Yu.; Попович, І. С.The purpose of the study is to justify the methodology for developing complexes of mental resources (CMR) for sports representatives by comparing CMR male and female sports teams. The male sample included football (n=108) and volleyball (n=58) teams, meanwhile, the female sample included handball (n=38) and volleyball (n=55) teams. Research Methods: valid test methods with standard survey forms; factor analysis; criterion and reliability coefficients of the empirical data array. Results. The methodology for developing complexes of mental resources in athletes is substantiated, and an algorithm for operations is proposed. ANOVA factor analysis was used to discover the most loaded parameters of all CMR. The CMR of male and female sports samples is represented graphically. F1 “Value-Meaningful” (DG1=24.01%; DG2=10.67%) and F2 “Pragmatically-Moderate” (DG2=24.25%; DG1=13.12%) are the most loaded CMR factors. Significant differences in the samples were found between the “Value-Meaningful” (t=3.2; p≤.01); “Pragmatically- Moderate” (t=-2.9; p≤.01) and “Procedural” (t=2.1; p≤.05) factors. The factors that comprise the valuemeaningful core are proven as the basis of the CMR of the male sample. It should be mentioned that the purpose of sports activities for male athletes is physical energy and “inner strength”, which allow them to overcome challenges, recover, and not break down. It was established that the CMR of the female sample is founded on pragmatism and moderation. The predominance of the pragmatic component in female sample representatives is assumed because the multifaceted nature of women consists in a female’s ability to create a family, give birth to children, and be in competitive sports shape in a relatively short period of time, which requires more time and psycho-emotional resources than men. Conclusions. The development of mental resource complexes enables the identification of major differences, the identification of athlete growth indicators, and serves as the basis for the development of work programs aimed at strengthening mental resources.Item ATHLETES’ RESILIENCE TYPOLOGY: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF INDIVIDUAL AND TEAM SPORTS(2022) Popovych, I. S.; Radul, I.; Hoian, I.; Ohnystyi, A.; Doichyk, V.; Burlakova, I.; Попович, І. С.The purpose of the empirical study is to develop and substantiate a typology of athletes’ resilience, as well as to compare different types of resilience among representatives of individual sports and team sports. Individual sports are represented by athletes from athletics, boxing, and weightlifting (n=312; average age M=26.2), and team sports are represented by representatives from mini-football, football, handball, and volleyball (n=322, average age M=28.1). Research methods: psychodiagnostic methods that used scales to evaluate the content parameters of the researched phenomena in a relevant way; participant observation; k-means cluster analysis; Spearman method correlation analysis (rs); criterion angle-transformation of Fisher’s (φ). Results. It is substantiated that athletes’ resilience typology is a scientific classification of abstract theoretical complexes (types) that integrate the most essential content parameters, structural and functional characteristics of athletes’ resilience. Commitment (rs=.148), Control (rs=.086), Challenge (rs=.076), Hardiness (rs=.115), Emotional Stability (rs=.146), Cheerfulness (rs=.186), and Motivation to Succeed (rs=.202) were determined as the content factors with the strongest connection to Resilience (р<.01; р<.05). Individual and team sports were formed as empirical typologies of athletes’ resilience. Individual athletes’ resilience was classified into four types: Value- Oriented (VO), Motivational-Oriented (MO), Socially Acceptable (SA), and Emotionally Stable (ES). The following types of team sports athletes’ resilience were identified: Motivational-Valued (MV), Control- Pragmatic (CP), Socially Acceptable (SA), and Resilient (RS). The distinctions in content features of athletes’ socially acceptable types of resilience in individual and team sports are substantiated. Conclusions. The first hypothesis was confirmed when two types of athlete resilience were developed. The second hypothesis is confirmed since the construction of resilience types is based on the dominating levels of content parameters. The third hypothesis cannot be statistically proven or disproven since the three types of athletes’ resilience differ in content parameters and cannot be compared. The Socially Acceptable type was compared, but no significant differences were found (р ≥ .05). It is recommended that representatives of individual and team sports consider the obtained results and that they be operationalized in athletes’ tactical training.Item RESEARCH OF YOUNG FEMALE HANDBALL PLAYERS’ SELF-ACTUALIZING MENTAL STATES(2022) Popovych, I. S.; Halian, I.; Lialiuk, G.; Chopyk, R.; Karpenko, Ye.; Melnyk, Yu.; Попович, І. С.The purpose is to establish the interdependence of self-actualization characteristics and to develop the factor structure of self-actualization mental states in young female handball players. Methods. Valid psychodiagnostic methods that have been validated in a number of sports studies were employed; targeted surveillance using standard protocol forms; factor analysis of lowering the proportionality of self-actualization elements using the ANOVA method; and Spearman correlation (rs). Results. The study’s methodological basis was the view of personality as an open, dynamic, self-organizing, and self-developing system. The psychological patterns of youth sports achievements are described. The parameters for young female handball players’ self-actualization have been established. The self-actualizing mental states factor structure is built. F1 “Search for Self- Actualization” (25.943%), F2 “Self-Motivation” (21.948%), F3 “Temporal Incongruence” (14.737%), F4 “World Perception” (9.221%) and F5 “Attitude to Cognition” (4.453%) were identified as the five factors (76.312%). F1 and F2 were discovered to be the most consistently loaded with self-regulatory components. F1 and F2 have the strongest correlation (p≤.05; p≤.01). F3 “Temporal Incongruence” was identified as the most harmful dominating self-actualizing mental state. Total concentration on the future and the objective narrows the attention of young female handball players to the outcome while disregarding the quality of the process, which has a detrimental impact on overall performance. Conclusions. It is experimentally defined and proved that the study’s findings should be implemented in the training and rehabilitation of young female handball players. Selfactualizing mental states that have been established and defined are a hidden resource of good sports performances in female handball players. The coaching staff’s discovery of the prevalent self-actualizing mental states of female handball players provides a tactical advantage over the opponent. It should be emphasized that the combination of procedural component and outcome reveals the athlete’s psychological development and leads to the attainment of consistently excellent performance.Item PLAYERS OF MALE TEAMS’ RESILIENCE: COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF CONTENT PARAMETERS(2022) Popovych, I. S.; Prytuliak, O.; Dushka, A.; Beregova, N.; Ihumnova, O.; Dzhyhun, L.; Попович, І. С.The purpose of the article is an empirical study and comparison of the content parameters of the resilience of male football teams that won (Group 1; n=66), lost Group 2; n=66), and drew (Group 3; n=44). Research methods: valid psychodiagnostic methods using standard survey forms were used in the study, as well as Spearman correlation analysis (rs) and the Student’s t-test. Results. It has been substantiated that the resilience of male football players is an integrated set of qualities, protective mechanisms, psychophysiological processes, and psycho-emotional states targeted at dealing with adversity, struggling, and overcoming/ not overcoming stress with a new level of functioning. It was found that the Resilience parameters of players who drew (Group 3) and players who won (Group 1) varied significantly RS (t=2.3; р<.05). It is explained that a team that receives a draw from the pre-game setup might develop such an expected model of events, which is followed by the mobilization of internal psycho-emotional efforts to the highest potential degree of player resilience. The resilience factors of Group 1 over Group 2 were revealed to be Cheerfulness (t=2.1; р<.05) and Motivation to Succeed (t=3.2; р<.01). It is established (р<.01; р<.05) and proven that an active life position, optimism, love for life, and emotional stability are powerful motivators for winning football players. Conclusions. The first hypothesis was rejected since the significant differences in resilience between Group 3 and Group 1 were t=2.3; р<.05, indicating that the players who played a draw outweighed the winners in terms of Resilience. The second hypothesis was confirmed since Group 3 respondents consistently outweighed Group 2 respondents in Resilience and Motivation to Succeed (р<.05). It is recommended to include the acquired results into the coaching staff’s work on football players’ tactical and psychological preparation for the game.Item INTERDEPENDENCE OF EMOTIONALITY, ANXIETY, AGGRESSIVENESS AND SUBJECTIVE CONTROL IN HANDBALL REFEREES BEFORE THE BEGINNING OF A GAME: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS(2022) Popovych, I. S.; Kurova, A.; Koval, I.; Kazibekova, V.; Maksymov, M.; Huzar, V.; Попович, І. С.; Курова, А. В.; Коваль, І. А.; Казібекова, В. Ф.; Максимов, М. В.; Гузар, В. М.The purpose of the article is to conduct empirical research on interdependence of the key individual psychological characteristics of handball referees before the beginning of a game; perform comparative analysis of the obtained parameters of referees with different categories and identify significant dynamic changes. The study substantiates and characterizes anxiety, aggressiveness and subjective control as important features of referees’ activity, affecting objectivity of results. Research methods: retrospective critical analysis of scientific literature, psycho-diagnostic testing, purposeful observation, comparative analysis using Student’s t-test, Pearson’s R correlation analysis. The study outlines the primary methodological postulates and technology for measuring parameters of the phenomena under study. Results. The study presents a graphical structure of subjective control of handball referees by qualification categories. Pearson’s (r) correlation analysis allowed determining interdependence of the parameters under study. Positive significant correlations were identified: between emotional stability and internality in the area of achievements (r=.286; p≤.01); between emotional stability and internality in labor relations (r=.278; p≤.01). Negative significant correlations were registered: between internality in the area of achievements and the parameters of aggressiveness: between inclination towards direct physical aggression (r=-.185; p≤.05) and the level of impulsiveness (r=-.268; p≤.01); between self-estimation of reactive anxiety and internality in labor relations (r=-.178; p≤.05). The study substantiates that the identified list of significant correlations proves that a respondent’s achievement of a higher level of qualification requires mobilization of their neural and mental efforts, a high level of subjective self-control and self-regulatory capability. Conclusions. The study emphasizes that the identified correlations of the key individual psychological characteristics of handball referees before the beginning of a game are important scientific facts in the context of the research on referees’ activity. It generalizes that the acquired knowledge should be operationalized into professional qualification upgrade programs for training referees in team sports. The study highlights that the obtained scientific facts can be useful for subjects of competition process, researchers in sport psychology.
