Abstract

У статті на матеріалі анкетування студентського соціуму Херсона розкрито демографічну та комунікативну потужність української та російської мов, схарактеризовано ставлення сту- дентів до української мови в умовах конкуренції з російською та наведено думки студентів про перспективи вживання української мови в Південному регіоні. Автор з’ясовує, що при виборі мови спілкування для херсонських студентів важливими є ступінь володіння мовою, національне самоусвідомлення, сфери спілкування, соціальна ситуація, престиж мови. The issue of language in individual’s worldview is always relevant, being particularly poignant during the transition period of social and political changes that are in process in the country as well as worldwide. Having become politically charged, language is turning into important means of manipulating public opinion and consciousness. There is no single approach to defining the notion “linguistic identity” in foreign and Ukrainian reference literature. Nowadays, researches analyzing linguistic identity in the context of language situation in Ukraine seem to be much needed.
