Abstract
Статтю присвячено дослідженню когнітивних механізмів
емерджентного смислотворення у метамодерній поетиці наративу на
матеріалі романів Кадзуо Ішіґуро. У центрі уваги перебувають когнітивні
моделі та механізми, що активуються у свідомості читача під час
осмислення неприродних нараторів і неприродних розумів. Такі наративні
структури формують специфічну модель внутрішньої фокалізації, яка
трансформує традиційні уявлення про рецепцію художнього світу.
Доведено, що ця організація наративу зміщує акцент із подієвого рівня на
рівень свідомості оповідача, провокуючи когнітивний дисонанс і
змушуючи читача одночасно утримувати кілька взаємовиключних
інтерпретаційних перспектив. Теоретичним підґрунтям дослідження
слугують положення когнітивної лінгвістики та когнітивної поетики,
зокрема концепції емерджентності, концептуального блендінгу та
концептуальної метафори. Розроблено поняття концептуальної
амальгамації. Обґрунтовано, що емерджентні смисли у прозі Ішіґуро
виникають не як результат лінійної інтеграції окремих значень, а як
властивість складної інтерактивної системи «читач — наратор —
художній світ». У статті доведено, що для опису специфіки
метамодерних образів недостатньо лише моделі концептуальної
інтеграції. Натомість продуктивним пояснювальним механізмом постає
концептуальна амальгамація, яка передбачає не злиття, а паралельне
співіснування та взаємопроникнення різнорівневих смислів. Особливу увагу
приділено моделі концептуального оксиморону як когнітивного ефекту,
що виникає внаслідок зіткнення несумісних фреймів у процесі
інтерпретації. Показано, що оксиморонні конфігурації образів,
характерні для романів «Не відпускай мене», «Клара і Сонце», «Залишок
дня» та «Похований велетень», зумовлюють виникнення емерджентного
морально-когнітивного ефекту, який реалізується на рівні читацької
свідомості.The article is devoted to the study of the cognitive mechanisms of emergent
meaning-making in the metamodern poetics of narrative, based on the novels of
Kazuo Ishiguro. The focus is on cognitive models and mechanisms activated in
the reader’s mind during the interpretation of unnatural narrators and
unnatural minds. Such narrative structures form a specific model of internal
focalization that transforms traditional notions of the reception of the fictional
world. It is demonstrated that this narrative organization shifts the emphasis
from the event level to the narrator’s consciousness, provoking cognitive
dissonance and forcing the reader to simultaneously maintain multiple mutually
exclusive interpretive perspectives. The theoretical foundation of the study is
based on cognitive linguistics and cognitive poetics, particularly the concepts of
emergence, conceptual blending, and conceptual metaphor. The notion of
conceptual amalgamation is developed. It is argued that emergent meanings in
Ishiguro’s prose arise not as a result of linear integration of individual
meanings, but as a property of the complex interactive system “reader —
narrator — fictional world.” The article demonstrates that, to describe the
specificity of metamodern imagery, the conceptual integration model alone is
insufficient. Instead, a productive explanatory mechanism is conceptual
amalgamation, which entails the parallel coexistence and mutual penetration of
multi-level meanings rather than their fusion. Special attention is paid to the
model of the conceptual oxymoron as a cognitive effect arising from the clash of
incompatible frames during interpretation. It is shown that oxymoronic image
configurations, characteristic of the novels «Never Let Me Go», «Klara and the
Sun», «The Remains of the Day», and «The Buried Giant», generate an
emergent moral-cognitive effect realized at the level of the reader’s
consciousness.
