The essence of oral speech as a form of speech activity is revealed in the work; the analysis of modern researches of a problem of development of oral speech of applicants of primary education is carried out; the advantages of storytelling in the educational process of NUS are revealed; the specifics of diagnosing the level of formation of skills and abilities of primary school students to compose oral expressions are clarified; methods of forming oral speech of junior schoolchildren through the main structural components of storytelling.
