The concept and essence of social and psychological adaptation to school are analyzed in the work; the psychological and pedagogical conditions of the child's adaptation to school are revealed; the signs, causes and consequences of school maladaptation are specified; comparison of adaptation indicators among high school students and first-graders of the New Ukrainian School; the pedagogical conditions of effective adaptation of first - graders in the conditions of the New Ukrainian school are substantiated.
